2017 Coney Art Walls Program Begins

Curators Joseph Sitt and Jeffrey Deitch Present New and Returning

Murals for Coney Island Public Art Wall Project

Greenwood Beach to Feature Live Entertainment and Popular Local Food Vendors including Patacon Pisao, Chick-N-Cone, Coney Shack, Neapolitan Express and The Hop Shoppe

New York, May 10, 2017 – Thor Equities has revealed its summer 2017 program for Coney Art Walls, the outdoor museum of street art curated by Joseph Sitt and Jeffrey Deitch. Located at 3050 Stillwell Avenue in Coney Island, the public art wall project will again collaborate with Greenwood Beach to offer live entertainment and several popular eateries from across New York City including Patacon Pisao, Chick-N-Cone, Coney Shack, Neapolitan Express and The Hop Shoppe.


Coney Art Walls will debut this year on Saturday, May 13th, and remain open from 12pm to 10pm daily through September.


“We are excited to announce the return of Coney Art Walls, and be part of Coney Island’s continuing transformation into a must-visit destination for New Yorkers as well as tourists from around the world,” said Joseph Sitt, CEO of Thor Equities.


Mr. Sitt and Mr. Deitch will present new artwork from renowned local and international artists including Crash, Alexis Diaz, Jim Drain, Ganzeer, Shantell Martin, Lee Quinones, Marie Roberts and Chris Stain.


“We’re pleased to add an outstanding group of new artists from England, Egypt, Puerto Rico, California and New York,” said Jeffrey Deitch. “We are especially honored this year to have a wall mural by legendary New York artist Lee Quinones, one of the inventors of Wild Style. In addition, Crash who has participated in the project since its inception is creating a new entrance wall. This year’s new murals bring us further toward the realization of creating New York City’s outdoor museum of street art.”


Additional works are on display from John Ahearn, Aiko, Buff Monster, D*Face, Daze, Eine, eL Seed, Haze, How & Nosm, Icy & Sot, IRAK, Kashink, Lady Pink, The London Police, Miss Van, Mister Cartoon, Nina Chanel Abney, Nychos, RETNA, Ron English, Pose, Sheryo & Yok, Tats Cru, and Tristan Eaton.


Throughout the summer, Coney Art Walls will host a myriad of appearances and live entertainment. These happenings include but are not limited to:

  • Sports Illustrated cover model Hailey Clauson, known for her iconic Coney Island Sports Illustrated spread, will help kick off the summer on opening day, May 13th. She will be signing autographs and more from 2pm-4pm.

  • Unicorn Carnival is returning for a second year on July 8th. Created by millennial cosmetic brand Winky Lux, it will feature cross-generational music performances as well as the celebration of beauty, makeup, magic, girl power and charity.

  • Burger Records will take over Coney Art Walls for a rock concert titled Burger Records Beach Bash on July 22nd.


Bordered by Bowery Street, West 15th Street and Stillwell Avenue near the Coney Island boardwalk and beach, Coney Art Walls attracts tens of thousands of visitors throughout the summer and beyond.


Coney Art Walls is adjacent to the original Nathan’s restaurant and across from Wahlburgers, IT’SUGAR, and the Nets Shop by Adidas. Located in the heart of the Coney Island Amusement District, the site is also close to Deno’s Wonder Wheel Amusement Park, Luna Park, the Cyclone, New York Aquarium, the new Ford Amphitheater and MCU Park, home of the Brooklyn Cyclones and New York Cosmos.

About Jeffrey Deitch: Jeffrey Deitch has been curating and writing about street art since 1980. He curated the popular Art in the Streets exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles in 2011. He also co-curated Wynwood Walls with the late Tony Goldman in Miami. He is the co-author of a monograph on Keith Haring published by Rizzoli and Jean-Michel Basquiat: 1981, the Studio of the Street, published by Charta. Live The Art, a history of Deitch Projects, was published by Rizzoli in 2014.
