The Living Gallery Outpost - From Bushwick to Avenue B

The historic, purple painted, tenement building located on Avenue B is home to a new art gallery and event space. Expanding on The Living Gallery in Bushwick, is The Living Gallery Outpost; it’s second location just opened at 246 E. 4th Street (and Ave. B) in the East Village. It’s brought to you by Nyssa Frank, Joseph Meloy, and Alexandria Hodgkins.

On Sunday, there was a kickoff party and BYO Art Show. The space started out with blank, white walls and supplies were provided on site to established and new artists. The walls quickly started to fill up with many impressive and diverse pieces. The artwork was showcased in a collaborative, but non-competitive way. There was affordable art for everyone! It was also a great way to make new discoveries.

Bushwick Print Lab (@bushwickprintlab) was there doing live silk screening of t-shirts and canvas bags, No Butty (@somebutty) had a display of vintage, handmade clothes, and there was glitter body painting by BioGlitz (@bioglitz).

The Living Gallery, which opened in Bushwick in 2012, is an art space for the community and music venue that looks to help up-and-coming creatives achieve their dreams by giving them a platform to share their art. The Living Gallery Outpost is hoping to do the same. When you think of a new art scene in New York, you may think of Brooklyn, but Meloy wanted to bring a fresh, interesting art outlet back to Lower Manhattan. The Living Gallery Outpost will offer arts and culture walking tours, instructional workshops and artist talks, and a monthly, neighborhood potluck. Other events include Drink and Draw on August 28th that’ll have a live model, drawing, and wine. There’s also an option to rent the space for your next event or party.

All the art was so different, yet every piece and artist were treated equally and no one was turned away. 100% of the profits went to the artists. From 2-10 p.m. there was a constant stream of artists and art fans alike; people admiring the art, others purchasing it. The Living Gallery Outpost believes that, “through art and communication, love and peace emerge.” At their East Village location, they will do just that by celebrating and supporting artists and by building a community through art.
