Football PowWow Style

Having spent a lot of time in the American west during my formative driving years, I love a good road trip. Three hours is just a hop, skip and jump, so earlier this week I headed to Worcester, MA for the day to experience a taste of this year's PowWow Worcester. PowWOW is right, this event has really exploded since last year with many more large scale works of art, including several on schools around the city.

Since I was only up for the day I circled a few locations and grabbed some work in progress shots and caught up with a few of the artists I only get to see once or twice a year at events like these.

But the headliner for the day had to be the Art to the Pitch Celebrity Soccer Match at Elm Park Community School [the site of several new massive works of art]. Artists joined local celebrities to be coached by actual soccer pros from the New England Revolution, Brad Knighton and Scott Caldwell. It was a hard fought match, I even saw a face full of blood at one point. After tying the score during regulation time the game came down to a shootout with the pink team prevailing [both teams wore pink uniforms designed by the artist Mr. Stash].

All in all a great day out of the city and a great taste of an well-planned, well-executed event. Can't wait to see what next year holds in store!
