The impermanence of urban or street art is fleeting so there is a sense of immediacy to view it before it is gone. The beauty of that is it affords the artist an opportunity to be challenged more frequently as opposed to studio work. They can constantly reinvent, improve and change their styles and approach with every new street wall.
Earlier this year we bid adieu to a beautiful tribute to hip hop mural painted in August 2015 by the Brazilian twins Os Gemeos. This mural was painted in the East Village that has since lost the battle to gentrification and a new condo has gone over it. But as with almost all things in life, as one door closes another one opens. We keep moving forward, opening new doors, and doing new things, because we're curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.
Os Gemeos is back in town for a month long project to bless the city of New York with an ambitious and sure to be stunning dual wall mural that will be at the very least 6 stories high. As you can see by the photos, the ghost lines and sketching shows their iconic characters and the familiar boom box, a nod to their recently departed mural. Stay tuned as we will check back with progress updates and finished work.
