On the Road: Sacramento, CA
I recently took a trip out to Sacramento, California to check out the latest art to be painted in the event known as the Wide Open Walls Mural Festival (WOW for short), which took place August 10th- 20th, bringing over 40 artists, both local and international alike, to the state's Capitol.
Following up on the inaugural event, formerly known as the Sacramento Mural Festival, which took place last year, the WOW Festival garnered an impressive list of artists from around the globe, including Adnate from Australia, Jorit Agoch from Italy, and Phlegm from Belgium, among others. On the local and national level, there were impressive works by How & Nosm, Miles Toland and Christina Angelina (Starfightera).
The new walls cover a wide range of the Sacramento area which necessitates having a car to explore, but a majority of walls are located in the downtown area, which is easily navigated by foot or bicycle. Here is a link to the map as provided by the WOW website.
I've listed some of my favorite artists from this year's event along with each mural location in the following photos:
Just an hour from the hills of San Francisco or the vineyards of the Napa Valley, Sacramento is now a must-visit destination for those seeking a phenomenal, world-class street art scene. Even a day trip from either of those California landmarks will leave you feeling...WOW.
So, do yourself a favor and take in the beauty of the new Wide Open Walls of Sacramento. What are you waiting for?
