Is Banksy Back?!

This afternoon, the artist known as Banksy posted a photo of a rat running on a clock, as if spinning the hands of time with his tiny legs, with no apparent purpose. Within minutes of his post, New Yorkers in Midtown who studied the architectural clues in his photo, clambered to grab a shot of the piece, which sits above the entrance of an abandoned HSBC bank at the corner of 14th Street and 6th Avenue, covered with graffiti on the building's facade.

What do we make of it all? Is this the beginning of another episode of Banksy adorning our city with images that make us smile and leave us wondering over the meaning and placement? Or is this just a one-time deal to let us no he is still around, hiding in the shadows?

Already, some are speculating that the artist intentionally put up his piece on this day, March 14th (3.14) on the very day that Stephen Hawking died, interpreting the piece to be a commentary on existence itself, that "time is relative and life is senseless", a nod to Einstein, and therefore Hawking. Who knows? Could be.

One thing is for sure, time will certainly tell if this is a one-off or if there is more to come from this man of mystery. Until then, enjoy the piece fellow New Yorkers. Banksy, we have missed you!
