The phenomena that is known as the Akumal Arts Festivial attracts artists from America, Asia, Australia, Europe and more. During this year's event, we witnessed many regional, national and international artists creating over a 100 works of art. The theme is "Beautify Akumal," but now with an added awareness of the impact of climate change. Since the festival is a community based initiative, we wanted to take this opportunity to highlight some local artists participating this year. Let's celebrate some of our brothers and sisters, los artistas mexicanos! (Click on names to see more work on their Instagram pages.)
It's been quite an experience covering this event! Artists, photographers, dancers, musicians, teachers, translators, all came together for a few days and when we go back to America, Asia, Europe, etc., we take a piece of Akumal with us. It was great to see such a diverse group of creatives come here to help boost this community and bring awareness to climate change because there's only one, shared planet. It's important to do our part in helping save it for ourselves and for future generations. (Thanks to Rena Gray (@walkinggirlnyc) for your assistance and for all your hard work during the festival!) Thank you again for having Sold be a part of Akumal 2019!
